Good morning racers… I thought it was time to share some of my thoughts on the topic of Product Reviews. I don’t believe in them. I’ve read the PEZ stuff and Velosnooz… The notion that I can have a review column where you as a producer can send me your stuff for free so I can use it and stroke your monkey so you can sell more products makes about as much sense as a dairy cow with testicles. (at least from the consumer’s standpoint). Now Coach Curly ain't a smart man... he's a practical man... So, when Science finally gets incorporated into a product review, I may start taking notice.
As your coach, I believe there is ALWAYS a product that’s better than the rest… ALWAYS. So here’s my take on the BEST of the BEST in cycling products:
Best Saddle – Selle Italia Flite (plain black and no damned cutouts)
Best Bike – Whichever one fits
Best Wheels – Whichever ones stay true and don’t break
Best seatpost – Not carbon
Best handlebars – The ones that fit and aren’t carbon
Best components – ALWAYS Campy… except for that electronic crap
Best cables – Nokon
Best chain – Wipperman or Sedisport Black if you’re running 6 speed still
Best handlebar tape – Any brand that makes it in Pink
Best Headset – whatever one stays adjusted
Best pedals – Speedplay X5s (if you think it’s making you win that you paid more for the X2’s or the carbon spindled X0’s… you’re on Cactus Crack)
Best Tires – no such thing… some are worse than others, some grip better in wet, in dry… The key to tires is keeping them inflated and I don’t care how many Tuffies you cram in there, you’re gonna get a flat… If anything, invest in a good tire lever/changing system and keep lots of spare tubes.
Best Shoes – ones that fit (so... Northwaves)
Best clothing – Hincapie’s pretty good…
Best Glasses – Axley’s… the fog proof ones
Here are some other BESTS for Coach Curly:
Best Shower doors – Holcam
Best Wine – Anything you can buy at the Tasting Room
Best Sausages – Jimmy Dean or the Schultzy’s Special
Best Hot Stuff that you don’t want to get on your taint – Greyhound Juice
Best Place to offload some singles – Ricks Gentleman’s Club and Saloon on Lake City Way... 2 blocks from Coach Warner and his partner Coach Horner's love shack.
As the season’s progresses, I’ll continue to review products that are good. We’ll talk to you soon…

How can you condenm other people for getting "free" product to test, then endorse all the products that are your team sponsors. In't that the same thing?
I just say throw away your power meters, heart rate monitors and go ride 7 hrs a day, and energy drinks?? Just carry a hip flask with Coffee and a nice Brandy in there ; -)
