Prize Money?? Now come on...

Coach Curly is pissed again this morning… I overheard some fella in line at Starbucks today talking about how he was gonna “clean up on prize money” at this years’ races… When the hell did bike racers get into bike racing for prize money? C’mon… there aren’t many pros out there in the NW peloton first off and B… Is that really your motivation for spending countless hours in the saddle?? To make a buck?? Some bike racers really aren’t that sharp are they… that’s gotta be the worst hourly rate ever… do the math. There are better jobs if that’s your aim…

Now I can understand if you are a PRO and that’s how you earn your living… but the pressure on promoters to put on good races with big CASH purses is really useless unless they want to draw the PRO crowd… for local racing, keep it simple… nail a quality event with some good organization and fun racing. And bike racers... race for the challenge, not the cash... Cuz Coach Curly sez
