Howdy Fellers... and you ladies too... Coach Curly is back. After raising the necessary funds, Curly has executed a hostile takeover of this blog and demoted ol' TEC4 to Tuesday's... just like he did to me. I also gave him one helluva shiner. Why am I back you ask? Well, let ol' Curly tell you... I still got me some work to do. Ol' Curly brought out his trusty... I mean crusty... 1985 Raleigh 531 with Campy Nuovo Record... and hit the roads. Needless to say... he didn't like what he saw. There were fellas going fast and sprinting all over the place. Curly even stopped one to ask what in tarnation's ghost he was doin'. His answer?? "Oh, I'm training for Mason". Last time I checked, those was trainin' races... Trainin' for trainin' races?? Rather than set the feller straight... and since he's not on the "paying customer's" list... I sent him on his way with only a "I guess we won't be seeing you in June".Well, look forward to some interactive training advice over the next few weeks cuz Curly is back.
Another thing Coach Curly saw this weekend was some folks plantin' seeds... Yeah, that's right... I saw the US Cross Team plant the seeds in folks' heads that the US can do well at a World's Cross event. Sure it was only Silver, but there's Gold in the effort. Gold cuz the Jrs. got a Silver, the lady folk managed one soon after and the Elite's Jonathan Page managed to squeeze off a silver medal as well. Now my guess is that one of 3 things wil happen.
1. It was a fluke and we won't see another US Rider on the podium in cross for years.
B. Other US cross riders will now believe that they too can compete at a cross World's... just like Greg Lemond did for Road Racing.
or thirdly... Curly lost his train of thought... O.K... so there's only two and I meant to do that.
Now this week you should be tapering off a bit on your volume to make way for some strempf training. I want you to find a big hill somewheres... like Juanita hill... That's prolly the steepest in the world... throw it in the 55X11 and keep you cadence in the 80-130 range. Oh, and don't let your heartrate go above 220. Now once you recover... and wake up... I want you to drink a big ol' glass of chocolate milk... not the organic kind... you need some of the growth hormones from regular milk. Now as I said TEC4 will be back for his won day tomorrow. Whatever you do, don't mention the shiner...
