Kinder and Gentler

Howdy "wanna be paid like a PRO" bike racers! Today will be a much kinder, gentler Curly. Ol' Curly took the fam damily to his new company's picnic yesterday. Quite a treat to see so many co-workers ride their bikes to the picnic. It looked like the July '06 catalog... Nice folks...

I guess there are some folks who get fired up about their racing and it didn't take a prize list or $100 prime to do it now did it? I knew you had the passion in ya. Just a matter of gittin' it to come out. Kinda like a saddle sore... You know it's there, you can feel it... hurtin' the the devil... then just the right amount of pressure makes it all better. Damn, I nearly puked just typing that.

Alright... I said it would be kinder today... How about having them race numbers pinned on both sides and a frame number for all USAC races? Now Ol' Curly has an opinion on that. Just do it dammit! Why is it such a pain to have a jersey with your numbers all ready to go. Why, hell... just copy your numbers onto some fabric and sew them on. Then you can wash the whole lot and no worries of rusty pins. OBRA gives out the fabric numbers still I think... Why those OBRA folks have some serious plusses don't they. Now Ol' Curly knows what yer thinkin'. "But Curly... they aren't part of the USAC and they're races aren't as good... and other whiney crap" To which I'll say... "shut yer pie hole... 2 words... Chris Horner"... He managed to become quite good ridin' around the Bend, Oregon area..." Now, just put yer numbers on... and quit yer bitchin'. It simplifies things... no Right side.... Left side crap... Of course the point is to be able to record results more accurately... BUT... now it puts the ownership on the officials... who have the job of being able to work the camera.

Hey... how bout that insurance surcharge when you buy your license and then your $2 surcharge per race...?

I told you kinder and gentler...

Here's a little funny for you... When Ol' Curly started the CurlySite way back in the day he thought it would be funny to set up a faux training programme payment option using his PayPal account that's named "Coach Curly Training Services"... Now every damned time I git an item paid for by PayPal, Lois, the mail lady gits a chuckle about delivering things to Coach Curly...

I have to agree with Old Curly on the WSBA # thing as far as pinning it at home. It is part of my night before, getting the race bag ready ritual, I pin both numbers so I don't have to worry about what side it goes on and I put on my frame number.

The thing that gets me though are the draconian actions of certain USAC officials threatening "fines" or making the "one number offenders" start 30 seconds behind the field (yes, this happened recently). Show me in the rule book where such a rule and fine system exists and then I will keep my yap shut about officials around here being too concerned about the rules that don't matter and not concerned enough about the rules that do (examples of both can be provided)

Charge $40 for WSBA. Get 4 cloth numbers, 1 frame number.

Charge $2 a race for out of staters to buy a "souvenir" race number to keep down on our renegade "I ain't joinin' no WSBA" folk.

Tell teams to not put sponsors (that they care about) on both back pockets and sew the numbers on a couple jerseys. For those of you with skinsuits...oh hell - why do you people wear those things. How can you even handle your junk in them?

Relegating for not having proper numbers? Did the field at least roll off easy and let them catch?
